IWL Student Advisory Panelist
My name is Tyler Hussey, and I am currently the only male member serving on the IWL Student Advisory Panel. I am a Human Resource Management major from Concord, NH and it is my goal to serve as a resource and advocate for women’s leadership on the Nichols College campus and within the greater community.
On Monday, October 24, IWL held a Conversation Project luncheon with special guest Heidi Helveston, Talent Acquisition Specialist for Enterprise Holdings Inc. She joined approximately ten students, including myself, to talk about leadership and tackling interviews.
Heidi has worked for Enterprise since 2005 and has worked hard to get where she is. Heidi spoke about Enterprise’s unique way of hiring and promoting. Almost 100% of full-time employees started out as management trainees and have worked their way into their respective functions. I really appreciated how Enterprise values their employees and shows this by promoting from within.
Along with talking about Enterprise and their career tracks, Heidi also spoke about interviewing. She stated that it is important to leave your phone in the car, be friendly to everyone you meet, and always smile. I agree with her advice. It can be tempting to bring your phone, however, it is extremely distracting during an interview. She also spoke about how important it is to always ask for projects when things get slow. This shows that you are driven and want to learn.
Heidi was a great guest and we enjoyed her company!
