The bison are back

September IWL Article

Welcome back to the Bison Community!

The Institute for Women’s Leadership (IWL) is delighted to reconnect with you as the new academic year gets underway at Nichols College. Each fall marks an important transition period, whether for new students discovering their place on campus, or for returning students re-engaging with leadership opportunities and academic pursuits. At IWL, we are committed to fostering an environment where students can thrive personally, academically, and professionally. This September, we are pleased to share our first monthly awareness article, brought to you by the Women’s Advocacy and Research team, highlighting key campus resources that support student success and belonging at Nichols.

The Institute for Women’s Leadership is a cornerstone of advocacy and opportunity at Nichols College. With a mission to give a voice to our limited female popular, the IWL team champions female initiatives and provides unique leadership and growth opportunities for our hardworking female students! Members of the IWL are empowered to attend social and educational programming, participate in career-centric opportunities, and attend conferences to build their confidence and professional skills. The IWL suite, located on the second floor of the Academic Building, continues to serve as a welcoming space for collaboration, mentorship, and community.

Student Belonging is another vital initiative that supports inclusivity across campus. The Student Belonging club partners with other campus clubs and hosts events that foster a sense of security, value, and involvement for every member of the campus community. This month, their highlight is Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrating our Hispanic community. Their work reflects Nichols College’s broader commitment to ensuring all students find their place and feel empowered to contribute meaningfully to campus life.

Recognizing the challenges that stem from college life, Nichols College Counseling Services offers free counseling to students. The services the center offers to students are both accessible and confidential to best support students and their needs. Apart from providing these accessible services for students, Counseling Services also hosts educational programs and pop-ups for students, helping familiarize students with their service and team members to make reaching out easier. By normalizing help-seeking and providing professional resources, Counseling Services plays a central role in sustaining student well-being.

Lastly, your time in college is a catalyst to advancing your leadership skills and readiness for a career. The Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC) prepares students for life beyond Nichols College. The center offers personalized aid ranging from resume workshops, career guidance, and hosting career fairs for students to begin building their professional networks. Advisors in the CPDC provide students with the tools for success in a highly competitive field, reflecting Nichols College’s commitment to bridging the classroom experience with professional achievement.

In addition to these featured resources, Nichols offers a wide range of organizations and opportunities to its students. From clubs to athletics, Nichols programs encourage students to develop their skills, pursue their passions, and foster a strong campus community. Students are empowered to create new initiatives they find important, ensuring that campus life remains responsive and adapted to evolving student needs.

As the semester unfolds, the Institute for Women’s Leadership remains dedicated to advancing women’s advocacy efforts and a strong, supportive female community at Nichols College. We are confident that by spotlighting resources such as Student Belonging, Counseling Services, and The Career and Professional Development Center, we not only contribute to strengthening out campus culture but provide accessible pathways for students to refine their skills as leaders. The Women’s Advocacy and research team will be publishing monthly features throughout the year on initiatives or movements that educate on women’s advocacy and elevate women’s empowerment. We invite you to stay connected with us, follow our progress, and share our commitment to shaping future leaders.

The future is female.

With appreciation,

The Women’s Advocacy and Research Team
